Public Safety Plan Completed at Durham Upper Dam

Posted: June 9, 2021

A Public Safety Plan was completed for the Durham Upper Dam which identified public safety hazards at the dam, such as deficiencies in fencing, signage, as well as the configuration of the walkway not meeting the appropriate safety standards to protect the public.

Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) staff are in the process of reviewing the recommendations and investigating costs related to modifications needed to reopen the walkway to the public.

In the meantime, the Durham Upper Dam pedestrian walkway (McGowan Falls) will remain closed and the Durham Upper Dam reservoir will not be filled for swimming until the recommendations in the Public Safety Plan have been addressed.
